The safety of students travelling to and from school is
one of the most pertinent issues for local communities. In particular, the traffic environment around schools can be the most complex traffic environment regularly encountered by children. Students are not always equipped with the skills to deal with environments like these, which can increase the risk of road crash incidents, but also child injury incidents.
Bayview Terrace Clayfield, already provides access to three educational facilities in one small strip - Eagle Junction State School, Clayfield College and C&K Clayfield. This proposed Development Application (DA), does not just add another child facility to this small strip, it equates to more children, more cars, more traffic, more parking issues, more choas, more delays, more risk for our children.
School road safety is a whole community problem that
requires a whole community awareness and commitment
to addressing the issues. The issue here - the red arrow in this photo represents where the driveway will be located for entry/exit into this proposed additional child facility. Furthermore the DA estimates 44 cars will enter and exit twice daily through this driveway, right near this pedestrain crossing and where hundreds of children already walk daily.
For school road safety to be improved, it is vital that
everyone works together. Let's not make matters worse.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads encourages
school communities to do everything they can to improve
the safety of our children around the school roads environment.
