Saint Lucia is one of the most beautiful, vibrant and historically significant islands in the Caribbean. Named after Saint Lucy — one of the only countries in the world to carry a woman's name — it is a destination of extraordinary natural beauty, rich culture, and a people whose resilience and talent continues to inspire the world.

In May 2025, TUI discontinued its direct flights from London Gatwick to Saint Lucia. Shortly after, Virgin Atlantic also withdrew from the route. The result? British Airways now holds a complete monopoly on direct UK flights to Saint Lucia — and prices have skyrocketed to levels that are simply out of reach for ordinary families, particularly the thousands of British-Caribbean families who rely on this route to stay connected with loved ones who have retired to the island.

The timing could not be worse — or more baffling. Saint Lucia is on the world stage like never before:

• Julien Alfred — born in Saint Lucia — became the fastest woman in the world, winning Olympic gold in the women's 100m at Paris 2024. Saint Lucia's first ever Olympic medal.

• Saint Lucia is now the Official Destination Partner of Arsenal Football Club — a multi-year global partnership launched for the 2026/27 season, reaching over 1.5 billion Arsenal fans worldwide.

• In 2024, Saint Lucia recorded 435,959 stay-over visitor arrivals — a 14% increase year-on-year, exceeding pre-pandemic levels despite having hundreds of hotel rooms offline for renovation.

• The island's carnival attracts global names — Angela Simmons, Kandi Burruss, Chloe Bailey, and Patricia Bright among the most recent visitors to celebrate the island's culture.

This is not a destination in decline. This is a destination on the rise — and British families deserve affordable, competitive access to it.

We are calling on TUI to reverse its decision, restore direct flights from the UK to Saint Lucia, and work in partnership with the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority and the island's hotels to offer British travellers a real alternative to BA's monopoly pricing.

For many of us, this is not just about a holiday. It's about visiting elderly parents who have retired to the island. It's about grandchildren growing up knowing their roots. It's about keeping families together across thousands of miles of ocean. TUI once made that possible. We are asking them to do so again.
