SouthLAnd was an American television crime drama series created by writer Ann Biderman and produced by Warner Bros. Television. It originally aired on NBC for one season and then on TNT for four additional seasons.
On October 8, 2009, NBC announced that the series had been canceled just weeks before its second season hit the air. On November 2, 2009, TNT announced it had purchased the rights to SouthLAnd's original seven episodes, as well as six completed episodes from its second season. TNT also produced 3 additional seasons of SouthLAnd, however- TNT's renewal of the show included a substantial budget cut and corresponding cast reduction. Because of these factors, along with the show moving onto a smaller network, on May 10, 2013, TNT announced that SouthLAnd had been canceled after five seasons.
SouthLAnd received positive reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted mean rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream crithe, SouthLAnd received scores ranging from 69-87. It also received three nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Stunt Coordination, winning the award twice in 2011 and 2012, and was nominated in 2013. In 2012, the series was awarded with a Peabody Award.
The seaon 5/series finale ended on many open cliffhangers, leaving the fate of many of its characters up in the air. Ending such an amazing series like this broke the hearts of tens of thousands of diligent fans. We are hurt by TNT's decision, almost four years after the fact, but we still haven't lost hope. The cast and producers set out a pipe dream of a wrap-up movie or episode, but none appeared. SouthLAnd is a quality drama show that is guaranteed to rake in money that only needs a big enough network to call everyone's attention to it. The main cast all would like to see the show continue, along with the tens of thousands of loyal viewers who loved the show and are desperate to see it thrive on modern-day television. TNT's main reason for cancelling the show were the low viewer count. While on NBC, the show averaged 7.44 million viewers per episode. Once the show moved to the lower-quality network TNT, the show was lucky to get 2 million viewers on an episode. Despite the ratings rising and the show's scores on sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes increasing after being moved to TNT, the lack of viewers on SouthLAnd's new home were ultimately what caused the show's downfall.
Together, we have a chance of bringing the beloved and critically-acclaimed gritty, realistic police drama back on the air. All we need to is show the show's support and catch the eye of anyone who is willing to make SouthLAnd a reality again. The show could possibly have another crack at NBC or TNT, be placed on another channel like AMC, or maybe even be bought and have more episodes produced by Netflix, where it would gain enormous popularity due to their large user-base. If anyone has any ideas of any channels who we could send the petition and the idea for the show to, please contact me ASAP.
Thank you, loyal fans, for joining me and signing this petition to restore a classic and truly incredible show back to television where it belongs.
