The Issue

Growing up in Manchester, I've witnessed the vibrant energy of our city and the hard work and dedication of our local taxi drivers who have been an integral part of our community's fabric. However, over recent years, our streets have become more chaotic and less safe, primarily due to the lack of local taxi services being given the opportunity to operate within their own city. Contracts that should naturally belong to our local service providers are being handed out to large, distant companies with little regard for the implications on our community.

The streets of Manchester are witnessing increased congestion and disturbances, a situation exacerbated by unfamiliar drivers who don’t know the city or its people as our local drivers do. The loss of these contracts not only affects the livelihoods of numerous local families who have been in the taxi business for generations, but it also impacts the efficiency and safety of our city transport.

Local taxi services like ours understand Manchester's grid better than any external entity. They provide prompt services, contribute to the local economy, and offer the personal touch that only comes from being part of the community. The familiarity and relationships built with residents over the years are invaluable and irreplaceable.

Giving contracts back to Manchester’s own ensures more accountability, as local operators genuinely care about their reputation and the welfare of fellow Mancunians. It’s time to prioritise our community's needs over the interests of big corporations that care little about our city beyond their profit margins.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for fairness, community empowerment, and a safer, more connected Manchester. Let’s work together to restore our city’s integrity and ensure that local taxi services are recognised for their profound impact and importance in weaving the community together. Sign now and make a real difference for Manchester’s present and future.
