Bring cooling to Albert Park College!

Bring cooling to Albert Park College!
The issue
To the Albert Park College School Council,
We, the students of Albert Park College, are writing to express our serious concerns regarding the unbearable heat conditions within our classrooms. As we endure an intense heatwave, we find ourselves in a school with no air conditioning and fans that barely function. The extreme temperatures are not just uncomfortable—they are unsafe, and immediate action is required.
The excessive heat makes it incredibly difficult to concentrate, significantly impacting our ability to learn. Studies have shown that high temperatures reduce cognitive function, meaning our education is suffering due to conditions that are entirely preventable. This issue is not just about discomfort—it is about our right to a safe and effective learning environment.
Additionally, many students experience medical issues that are worsened by the heat, including asthma, migraines, heat sensitivity, and dehydration. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to dizziness, nausea, and even fainting, creating a serious health risk within our classrooms. It is unacceptable that students should have to endure such conditions while trying to focus on their studies.
As an eco-friendly school, we understand the importance of sustainability and do not expect air conditioning to run constantly. However, on days when temperatures reach 30°C or higher, there must be a system in place to ensure that students and staff are not subjected to unsafe conditions. Other environmentally conscious schools have implemented solutions such as energy-efficient air conditioning, solar-powered cooling, and well-maintained ceiling fans—options that should be considered for our school as well.
This is not a luxury; it is a necessity. If the school values the health, safety, and academic success of its students, immediate steps must be taken to improve classroom conditions. We urge the school council to address this issue with the seriousness it deserves and implement an effective cooling strategy as soon as possible.
We demand action on this critical issue.
Sincerely,
The students of Albert Park College.
