The Issue

As residents of the vibrant Olympia area, our community has always been proud to support public transport as a sustainable and essential means of commuting. However, the current refusal by Transport for London (TfL) to bring back the full District Line service from Kensington Olympia Station means that the estimated 12 million annual visitors to the new Olympia development will not be able to use the tube to get there. It is step-free access and connects to the most extensive transport network in London.

The Street Hub, representing thousands of local residents, urges TfL to restore the District Line service at Kensington Olympia. The halt in service has inconvenienced millions of residents and visitors who rely on this essential transport link to travel for work, education, and leisure. Moreover, it will pose a significant challenge for the safe movement in and out of the millions of visitors predicted to attend concerts, shows, restaurants, hotels now opening on this unprecedented development  of the Olympia Exhibition Centre.

Olympia is undergoing a £1.6bn transformation, led by Yoo Capital and Deutsche Finance International. This comprises a world-class performing arts venue, 5000 capacity music venue,1,500 seat theatre, cinemas, conference centre, over 550,000 sq ft of office accommodation, a secondary school, two hotels,  34 restaurants, bars, private club and cafes. The site will house two international hotel brands – citizenM and Hyatt Regency – a boutique fitness venue by 1Rebel and 550,000 sq ft of premium office spaces. You would think that this would warrant the return of the District Line? Well apparently not. But with public pressure growing and the support of our MPs and council, we want your help to sign this petition.

The need for reliable public transport in our community cannot be overstated. While alternative routes exist, they are often less direct and more time-consuming, discouraging both residents and visitors from using public transport. The District Line provides a direct link that not only benefits the local community but also enhances London's overall transport infrastructure.

We understand that operational challenges may have led to the suspension of the service. Since then the rolling stock and infrastructure has been modernised making restoration possible. We think its critical.
