Bring Back Independent TACC in Model Y (Juniper) & Model 3 (Highland)
The Issue
We are a growing group of Tesla owners and enthusiasts calling on Tesla to restore a vital feature that was removed in the latest Model Y (Juniper) and Model 3 (Highland) — the ability to activate Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (TACC) independently of Autosteer.
In older Teslas, enabling TACC was simple and intuitive:
Single pull of the stalk = TACC (cruise control with adaptive speed)
Double pull = TACC + Autosteer
This gave drivers real flexibility. TACC was a powerful tool for controlling speed safely on rural roads, in bad weather, or in construction zones — without forcing automated steering in situations where Autosteer may be unreliable or unsafe.
In the new Juniper and Highland models, Tesla removed the stalk and replaced this functionality with the right scroll wheel, which activates both TACC and Autosteer at the same time. There is no way to use TACC on its own, unless you disable Autosteer entirely in deep menu settings before you start driving.
This is more than an inconvenience, it’s a step backward in safety and usability:
If Autosteer disengages unexpectedly or the driver manually takes over, the entire system drops out, and the car may brake abruptly, which is dangerous at motorway speeds.
Tesla drivers now must choose ahead of time whether they want Autosteer at all. It's completely undermining the flexibility Enhanced Autopilot was designed to provide.
This change disproportionately impacts drivers who paid for Enhanced Autopilot or FSD features, expecting modular control over assistance systems.
Tesla has built a loyal user base by listening to customers and improving the driving experience through software updates. This issue has been raised repeatedly by owners across forums, support emails, and bug reports yet no action has been taken, and those who ask are often told, "This is by design."
We're asking for a simple, software-based solution:
Allow TACC to be activated alone with a single scroll wheel press
Allow TACC + Autosteer with a double press or long press
Or make this behavior configurable in the Autopilot settings
We love our Teslas. We want to continue recommending and supporting the brand. But this change is a serious regression — and it’s turning passionate owners into disappointed ones.
Tesla, please listen.
