Bring back Half-Uni for DHS
Bring back Half-Uni for DHS
The Issue
Dear Dunmanians, I am sure that many of you have heard rumours that there are several upcoming changes put in place by our school's leaders. There have been talks about removing Prom Night in its entirety for the next batch of graduating Y6s, amongst others. However, what has been confirmed is that we would have to go back to wearing our school uniform in an attempt to salvage a perceived to be faltering school spirit and discipline.
While some can argue that we can adapt to the changes with time, what ever happened to consulting the school population before even making such decisions? With the soaring and unbearable temperatures Singapore is experiencing now, Dunmanians’ comfort is not prioritised here.
That was the sole and main purpose of the half-uni policy students gratefully enjoy today. Teachers often marvelled at the vibrant student body, showing our uniqueness of each individual students and also the affinity of our school as a whole. Does this not already showcase Dunmanians’ strong identity and belonging?
I believe that suddenly bringing back an old rule does not do their said motive justice when the leaders of Dunman High are not engaging with the student body and understanding the current school’s culture enough.
I hope this new implementation can be reviewed to allow the continuation of Dunmanians’ comfort of attire, and if need be to bring back the rule of wearing full uniform on Mondays only.
