Bring back gluten free brownies at the National Trust

The Issue

The National Trust has decided to remove gluten-free brownies—the only freshly baked gluten-free option—from their cafés nationwide. Their reasoning? A survey showed that people without food intolerances would prefer the brownie to contain gluten.

This decision shows a disappointing lack of understanding and empathy for those with food allergies and intolerances. It’s a step backwards in terms of inclusivity.

Those without dietary restrictions can eat anything on the menu, including gluten-free items. So why remove the only option that caters to people who don’t have that same freedom? Brownies typically contain very little flour, and gluten-free versions are often indistinguishable from the regular kind—meaning everyone can enjoy them.

Now, the gluten-free community is left with, tiny overpriced, dry, pre-packaged snacks instead of something freshly baked. That’s simply not good enough. We should be moving towards inclusivity, not away from it.

Please sign this petition to show the National Trust how many people feel this is an unfair, uninformed, and exclusionary decision. Let’s ask them to bring back a freshly baked gluten-free option for their paying guests.
