Bring awareness to the kidnapping of women such as Leah Sharibu and others
The Issue
On February 19, 2018, the Boko Haram attacked the Government Girls Science and Technical School in Dapchi, Yobe State, Nigeria. Boko Haram abducted 110 girls, five of whom were reported killed in the abduction. In March, Boko Haram returned 104 girls to their families, all the students. they had abducted from the school except for Leah Sharibu. Boko Haram reportedly kept Leah Sharibu because she refused to comply with their demands and convert to Islam. In another unfortunate occurrence in Chibok Nigeria, 276 girls were kidnapped in 2014 and as of 2019, 112 of the girls are still missing.
Boko Haram threatened to kill Leah Sharibu if their demands were not met. Though The Nigerian government has said it “will not relent in efforts to bring Leah Sharibu safely back home.” We need more efforts by the world government and its leaders. It is now up to us fellow humans to stand up for Leah and many children that has been kidnapped. Boko Haram's most recent threat has been to keep Leah Sharibu as a “slave for life.” According to estimates, Boko Haram, including ISIS-WA, continues to detain hundreds of individuals in northeast Nigeria.
