My plea is personal, reflecting a concern shared by many individuals in my circle of friends and family who are negatively affected by Trump's actions and agenda. As a popular television show, American Idol's acceptance of Carrie Underwood's inaugural performance, unfortunately, symbolizes passive support of these divisive policies.

The statistics speak volumes. Human Rights Campaign notes that during Trump's presidency, there were over 180 anti-LGBTQ actions, seriously threatening the Civil Rights of this community. The welcoming role offered to Underwood—who performed as part of Trump's inauguration—by American Idol sends a harmful message of complicity with an agenda that has so negatively impacted marginalized communities.

Let us take a stand and show that we won't support this indirect endorsement of an agenda we firmly believe to be harmful and divisive.
