We want more primary school places for the children of Southbourne. This year 28 children from the southeast of the borough will be attending schools 2 - 7 miles away because there are insufficient places locally. Stourfield is oversubscribed and St Katherine's prioritises religious families, meaning non-religious pupils who live as close as 250m to the school are denied a place. 

Bournemouth Council needs to place children close to their homes, whether that's through funding an extra class at St Katherine's (which must be non-selective), creating an additional school in the Hengistbury Head area or re-jigging primary school catchments (for example, children living north and west of Stourfield could be directed to Avonwood).

At present, there isn't even a sufficient bus route. Giving parents petrol money, putting 28 more cars on the road and denying children a healthy walk to school is not the solution.
