Refund Musicians Student Loans
The Issue
During covid times, millions of musicians have suffered financially in an industry many of us have spent thousands of pounds to train in.
In an interview Sunak suggests that being a musician isn’t a viable job and that we should retrain. I believe that if we should have to retrain, student finance loans taken out to study within the music industry should be refunded.
We want to know why were we encouraged to borrow thousands of pounds in high interest loans to study music if this was an “unviable” career choice and why should we have to borrow even more money to retrain in another industry because there’s a pandemic which is completely out of our control.
If our student debts from studying music were refunded/wiped out, we would then be able to afford to retrain without massive debts hanging over us from a career that is apparently no longer viable to pursue; Never mind the loss of earnings that we have already endured during 2020 and over the next few years that it would take us to retrain at university level in another area.
I also question how many current students are currently being aloud to continue paying to be on courses that lead to an “unviable” career..
