I/We the undersigned call on Bolton Council to utilise the Grade 2 listed Chapel at Astley Bridge cemetery as a Library, Local Education Centre & Community Cafe. Make the chapel a feature of our community to celebrate the lives of those who contributed so much to our Astley Bridge family. WE WANT OUR LIBRARY BACK! Warren Fox said: “I’m passionate about saving Bolton’s heritage and history, we have family buried at the cemetery, and ensuring it is clean for visitors is really important to me. The Council struggle to maintain the cemetery because of lack of funds. A café would provide a comfortable place for families paying their respect to loved ones, hopefully any profits made from a café can be used to ensure the grass is cut, litter is picked, the area stays clean of dog mess and graves are cared for. We should show respect to the people who have given so much to the Astley Bridge community. I want to make sure their legacies live on.” He added, “A cemetery seems an odd location for a library, but we have to solve complex situations with modern thinking and be prepared to think outside the box to save our old buildings. If we lost the chapel building because it wasn’t cared for, I think the families who’s loved ones are buried there would be devastated.”
