Dear Supporters,
As 2022 winds down, it’s a good time to look at Costco’s gestation crate goals for the year:
“We believe that U.S. and Canadian suppliers of our fresh pork and Kirkland Signature cooler items will by the end of 2022 be utilizing group housing or confinement that permit sows to turn around.”
“… we are working with suppliers … to further reduce the number of days that breeding sows spend in confinement.”
These are commendable goals … if Costco can achieve them. That’s why it is important to let them know that we care and we’re watching.
You can help by contacting Costco and asking them if they will meet their goals.

Sample scripts:
“I was pleased to see that Costco is working with its pork suppliers to reduce the number of days mother pigs spend in confinement. Do Costco buyers believe they will achieve this goal by the end of 2022? How many days will these animals need to stay in confinement?”
“I was pleased to see that your fresh pork suppliers will all be using group housing for mother pigs – or at least keeping them in crates where they have enough room to turn around – by the end of 2022. Will you be achieving this goal?”
While Costco typically shares a policy update in December, the time is now to start inquiring. If you get a response or speak to someone, please share below in the discussion dialog box.
Thank you for your support!
