Block Smoking Lounge Near Milwaukee School and Church

Block Smoking Lounge Near Milwaukee School and Church
The Issue
As a local resident deeply concerned about the safety, health, and character of my neighborhood, I urge the community to stop the opening of a cannabis smoking lounge by Kief Co. Hemp Shop at the former Flavorellas location. This proposed lounge will be designed to imbibe in cannabis as opposed to purchasing product that is consumed at home. The smoking lounge is located alarmingly close to both a school and a church, two institutions where community families congregate, and it poses significant risks to our children and families.
Exposure to secondhand smoke is a well-documented health risk, especially to young children whose lungs are still developing. The proximity of this smoking lounge raises the potential for children to encounter such harmful substances during their daily activities. Moreover, the presence of a smoking lounge promotes an adult environment unsuitable for the many families who pass by regularly.
There are also serious concerns about increased impaired driving incidents in a neighborhood characterized by high foot traffic. The traffic and potential dangers of drivers operating under the influence are likely to compromise the safety of pedestrians, many of whom are children attending nearby schools.
Community values and the neighborhood's essence are threatened by this business proposal. Our neighborhood's character leans toward family-friendly establishments that foster safe environments for all age groups. Allowing a smoking lounge to open near these sensitive locations stands against the very fabric of our community values.
For the sake of our children's health, public safety, and the preservation of community character, please join me in urging local authorities to deny the occupancy license for Kief Co. Hemp Shop's proposed location. Your support in signing this petition will send a clear message that the residents of Milwaukee prioritize the welfare and safety of their community and families. Together, we can protect what makes our neighborhood special and safe for everyone.
