Make Korean companies provide their idols, actors and actresses with in-house therapists.

The Issue

Idols and actors/actresses in the Korean entertainment business, struggle as they are constantly under pressure to always be seen as the flawless human. These stars are pressured to try and have immaculate bodies and be the perfect role model. Any instance where they do not match the criteria of society, they may be heavily criticized by malicious comments. The consistent overbearing stress of the idea of “perfection” and malicious comments idols receive can lead to mental illness such as: depression, anxiety/panic disorder, etc. Here are some cases of suicides from Korean celebrities within the last 15 years:

- Actress Lee Eun-ju, died by suicide aged 24.

-Singer/actress U;Nee died by suicide aged 25.

-Actress Jeong Da-bin dies by suicide aged 26.

-“The Nation’s Actress” Choi Jin-sil died by suicide aged 39.

-Actress Jang Ja-yeon died by suicide aged 29.

-Actor/Singer Park Yong-ha died by suicide aged 32.

-Singer Kim Jonghyun died by suicide aged 27.

-Actor Jun Tae-soo died by suicide aged 33.

-Actress Jeon Mi-seon died by suicide aged 48.

-Actress/Singer Sulli died by suicide aged 24.

-Actress/Singer Goo Hara died by suicide aged 28.

-Actor Cha In-ha died by suicide aged 27.

Under my belief, if companies began to have in-house therapist for Korean celebrities, traumatic tragedies can be prevented and lead a way to recovery (for those who are mentally ill). Companies do not have a logical excuse to avoid providing mental help for their idols. Money can not be brought up as an issue if they can afford things such as: living expenses, food, wardrobe, etc.
