My Appeal:

THIS IS RELEVANT TO YOU IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT OF BENGALURU & OR TRAVEL TO AND FROM BENGALURU AIRPORT FOR ANY REASON

Request the Bengaluru Police to close alternate routes both from & to the Bangalore airport between 6pm - 8am (as it gets dark early in winters) by setting up barricades/check-posts to prevent Ola/Uber/Cab drivers from using them to avoid paying toll charges.

Cab drivers take the poorly lit, isolated  BK Halli-Bagalur route to avoid paying toll on NH 44- Hyd highway. The BK Halli road has been in the news for incidents of robbery, murder and more.

In response to rising complaints, the Bengaluru police  did issue an advisory prohibiting cab aggregators from using the road at night but the onus of implementing this has been put on cab companies which is difficult for them to enforce as was said by a spokesperson of Ola. Cab drivers continue to take the isolated roads despite the advisory.

I feel that setting up of police check-posts at the entry points to these roads at night- post 6pm will solve the problem. Simple cost effective solution which will ensure safety of women, senior citizens & men alike. Also, Ola & Uber rides to and from the airport are inclusive of toll charges and cabbies take these routes to make extra money. Even otherwise, I don't think travellers will mind paying an additional INR 100 (toll charge) in the interest of their safety.

Request you to share this widely as this simple measure can save multiple lives.
