As a former student of Beal High School I believe learning is key. Let's face it. In this generation, most of us learn from the internet so why isn't it accessible to students on their personal devices? Yes, there is an issue of assigning IP addresses and making sure that the network can handle a large amount of traffic, but if other schools can do this why can't we? Feel free to block certain websites but please don't block the use of smartphone apps or even some websites that aren't even offensive or harmful. Apps such as Edmodo, YouTube and Moodle won't work without a working internet connection. Even to top up my canteen money I have to use my cellular data which is really a pain since the reception isn't great on school premises. I am not surprised that there was a recent intrusion to the network regarding the retrieval of a WiFi key, but these incidents can be fully avoided if you provide your students with internet access on their personal devices.
