David Crisafulli recently told the National Press Club that “Queensland is ready for you.”

But ready for who, exactly?
If we are inviting interstate and overseas building workers, who is ensuring they are genuinely skilled, properly licensed, and compliant with Queensland law? Or are we opening the door to bankrupt operators, non-compliant trades, and builders who have already failed in other states?
Queensland homeowners are already battling serious regulatory failures under the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). There are documented cases where builders operated below standard, breached contracts and the National Construction Code, and were only stopped after months — even years — of complaints.
How can Queensland be “ready” when the regulator is already struggling to protect homeowners?
We are seeing:
- Nominee licence holders not properly supervising works
- Interstate companies operating under questionable arrangements
- Non-compliant building practices slipping through the cracks
- Homeowners left fighting for accountability
Premier Crisafulli, are you focused on protecting Queensland families and their largest asset — their homes — or simply increasing licence numbers and insurance revenue?
If the QBCC cannot effectively regulate now, how will adding more interstate and overseas operators strengthen the system?
Queensland homeowners deserve:
- Stronger regulation
- Genuine oversight
- Transparent accountability
- A regulator that acts before harm is done
So I ask again — are Queenslanders truly ready for more unregulated and poorly supervised builders?
Or is the government ignoring the warning signs?
