The Victorian Business Houses Basketball Association (VBHBA) is a beloved local institution that has come under threat.

For the last 81 years, the VBHBA has promoted a love of sport while bringing our community together. It has spread the values of teamwork, cooperation and inclusivity through the joy of basketball. With teams from Melburnian businesses, universities and - in my case - high schools, the VBHBA is a diverse, multi-generational melting pot. In a world where our sense of community is deteriorating, where we feel disconnected and disillusioned, it's more important than ever to come together as a team. That’s why institutions like the VBHBA are essential to our wellbeing.

But what makes the VBHBA unique is that it's a true community organisation. For its entire history, it's been run by locals, for locals. This matters because community matters. It matters because history matters. It matters because the VBHBA is a genuine basketball family, and that’s irreplaceable.

Unfortunately the VBHBA is under attack. Basketball Victoria (BV) are trying to take control of the league. This is not only unfair on a treasured local organisation, it is a tragedy for local basketballers. If the league is incorporated into the BV machine, MSAC basketball will simply never be the same. Gone will be the community spirit. Gone will be 81 years of tradition. Gone will be the very identity of MSAC basketball.
