Barbarism in India

Barbarism in India
Why this petition matters
In India, the brutal practice of animal sacrifice is believed to originate from Ancient Indian religious rituals and practices and is followed by particular communities in a festival or by individuals to appease Gods and Goddesses, who would, by this act, give a conclusive positive closure to the ritual or practice . While it is true that Animal sacrifice was prevalent in Ancient India, the "kind" of animal to be sacrificed has now been misplaced. Ancient Indian Religious systems, which includes religions other than Hinduism too, were based on concrete understanding of Reality and Existence. Manifestation of this Existence was understood as different levels of consciousness - stages and steps , where evolution could be achieved by transition from the tamasic to the sattvik. While this understanding has been lost to ages, some rituals have gradually deteriorated and infact lead to a spiral downward plunge of the consciousness. It is important to note that during this ritual originally the "animal " inside the human engaged in this ritual for upliftment of consciousness was to be sacrificed. So it is the Animal Consciousness which was mandatory to sacrifice for a higher consciousness and God realization. The act took a gross form in literal animal sacrifice. In an attempt to resuscitate the lost glorious religion which was based on high principles, we appeal to the court to ban animal sacrifice and any and all acts of religion which preaches violence or requires to kill humans or animals. This has no place in the modern era of scientific reasoning and is against the true ethos and tenets of the Hindu religion. Such acts are defamation of our religion and a malpractice that hurts not just the sentiments but also destroys the core foundations of our religion by projecting a wrong message to the society and generations to come. The sacrifice of an animal is brutal as it is also against the right of an animal as recognised under article 21 of the Indian Constitution. Such practices should be completely abrogated and not to be protected under article 25 of the Constitution. In fact it is a violation of the article that protects religions. The practice of animal sacrifices is a deviation from the core values of spirituality of all religions. Animals are also protected under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) act of 1960. And this is why it is important to understand why the constitution would, on one hand, give one religious freedom, and on the other hand give completion protection to animals. The makers of the constitution were not unaware of the deep rooted practices of religions. There is no contradiction here. On the other hand it is evident that animals were considered as pious as the Gods and were not to be destroyed in the name of a dogma or fallacy created later by people with vested interests and shallow knowledge, who sat in powerful positions. It is now time to undo all the wrong we have done to the religions and the animals.
