Ban Ticket Companies Like Ticketmaster from Implementing Dynamic Pricing
The Issue
As a fan of the iconic band Oasis, I, like many others, was beyond excited about their reunion and upcoming tour in 2025. But this enthusiasm turned into disappointment when myself, and millions of other British fans, were greeted with exorbitantly inflated ticket prices because of dynamic pricing methods. Advertised prices of £150 quickly turned into £350 after a mere 6-hour wait.
Ticketmaster and other similar platforms use dynamic pricing, a technique that allows them to drastically increase the cost of tickets based on demand. This is a practice employed by many industries, but when it comes to concert tickets, it has created an almost insurmountable barrier for dedicated fans.
The UK's music industry was worth £5.8 billion in 2019 (UK Music, 2020), with live music events playing a significant role. Live performances account for £1.3 billion of this, but dynamic pricing jeopardises access for the average fan. It's time we prevent ticket companies from taking advantage of fan loyalty and love for live music.
It's high time to ban dynamic price hiking in ticket sales. Stand with us and demand fair pricing for concert-goers. Sign the petition today to vote against the dynamic pricing in ticket sales and allow everyone access to the music they love!
