The Issue

Every day, as I walk through my neighborhood, I notice the omnipresent eye of Flock cameras tracking my every move. It's unsettling to know that our every action is being recorded without our consent. Our right to privacy, a fundamental pillar of our democracy, is being eroded as Flock cameras proliferate in public spaces.

While these systems are often touted for their potential to deter crime, the reality is that they compromise the privacy and freedom of law-abiding citizens. Studies have shown that increased surveillance does not necessarily lead to a significant decrease in crime rates. Instead, it creates a chilling effect, causing people to self-censor and live under constant scrutiny. This is not how we should live in our free society.

Flock cameras are capable of capturing high-definition images and license plate data, storing them for up to 30 days. This data collection is often done without the consent of the public and poses a significant risk of misuse, whether intentional or through data breaches. Recent reports highlight incidents where surveillance data was mishandled or leaked, leading to further erosion of trust in these systems.

Furthermore, marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by such heightened surveillance, often leading to increased racial profiling and social discrimination. It's a system that targets the very people it claims to protect. This is not the future we should accept for our neighborhoods.

We must demand action from our local and national governments to protect our fundamental right to privacy. By pushing for a ban on Flock cameras in public areas, we can take a stand against unwarranted surveillance. Let us hold onto our privacy and freedom.

Please join me in calling for the removal of these surveillance tools from our communities. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to ban Flock cameras in public areas and ensure that our right to privacy is respected and protected. Together, we can make a difference.
