BAN SALE OF NANGS AUSWIDE

BAN SALE OF NANGS AUSWIDE

The issue

LETS HAVE NANGS BANNED AUSWIDE

Nitrous Oxide (“Nangs”) is a gas which can induce euphoria, hallucinogenic states and relaxation when inhaled. Nitrous oxide is a neurotoxin and excessive use can cause long-term neurological damage and even cause death.

The laws around the sale of Nangs state that you can only sell them to persons over 18 and only if they are being used in the kitchen supply area e.g. for whipping cream. It is illegal to sell them if it is suspected that they will be used for the purposes of inhaling. Nangs are so accessible and they're not being sold for the reason they're made for, mostly being sold for substance abuse.

A pack of Nangs costs about $10.00. Nangs can be purchased at service stations and tobacconists, and they are being used as a drug by teenagers who are not even asked for ID to show they are over 18. More information about the effects and dangers of Nangs can be found on the Australian Drug and Alcohol Foundation website below:

https://adf.org.au/drug-facts/nitrous-oxide/

Nangs also have a detrimental effect on the environment - these small gas canisters are nonrecyclable and have a lifespan of between 50 and 75 years. The impact of Nang use is highly detrimental to the environment, as some 500kg to a tonne of discarded Nangs can end up in landfill after just one music festival.

The canisters also contribute to the formation of acid rain and global warming as well as inhibiting plant growth.
