This petition is deeply personal to me. I have a friend who has fallen victim to the rampant use of nitrous tanks, also known as 'noz'. It's heartbreaking to watch someone you care about lose their ability to live life normally due to this dangerous substance.

San Clemente is currently facing an epidemic of nitrous oxide abuse among our youth. Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as 'laughing gas', is often used recreationally for its euphoric effects. However, prolonged use can lead to serious health issues such as vitamin B12 deficiency, neurological problems and heart failure.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), there was a 15% increase in nitrous oxide related emergency room visits nationwide between 2010 and 2011 alone. This statistic reflects the growing problem we are facing in our own community.

We need immediate action from our local government officials in San Clemente, CA. We urge them not only ban the sale and possession of nitrous tanks within city limits but also invest more resources into education and prevention programs for our youth.
