Ban IXL

Ban IXL
The Issue
As someone who has personally experienced the frustration and dissatisfaction associated with using IXL, an online learning platform, I am calling for its ban in educational institutions. My personal struggles with this tool have led me to investigate further, and what I found was alarming.
IXL's adaptive learning environment often leads to repetitive tasks that do not foster genuine understanding or critical thinking. Instead, it encourages rote memorization which is not conducive to long-term learning. A study by Stanford University reveals that rote memorization does not contribute significantly to improving students' problem-solving skills (Stanford University, 2018).
Furthermore, the pressure of achieving a perfect score on IXL can lead to unnecessary stress among students. The American Psychological Association states that high levels of stress can negatively impact a student's mental health and academic performance (APA, 2014).
This petition is not just about my personal dislike for IXL but also about the negative implications it has on our education system as a whole. We need educational tools that promote comprehensive understanding and encourage critical thinking rather than fostering anxiety and rote memorization.
Please join me in urging educational institutions to reconsider their use of IXL as an instructional tool. Sign this petition today!
