But recently, I discovered that Flock cameras and license plate readers were installed without our consent or a public vote, and it's deeply troubling.

These surveillance devices are being used to monitor every vehicle that enters and leaves our neighborhood, capturing sensitive data without any oversight. This violates our Fourth Amendment rights, which protect us against unreasonable searches and seizures. The Fourth Amendment requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause, but no such authorization has been sought or granted for these invasive measures.

As residents, we understand the need for security, but these methods are not only intrusive; they are ineffective. Studies have shown that constant surveillance does not significantly reduce crime rates. A report by the Brennan Center for Justice highlights that invasive surveillance technology often leads to disproportionate impacts on marginalized communities and does not deliver the safety benefits promised by its proponents.
