The Issue

After the traumatic experience of a dog attacking a beloved pet on the first-floor landing and then once again my Dog Sandy in a nearby park, it's clear that something must change. The presence of aggressive dogs within my residential building has made it unsafe for me and other residents, and I have received no support from Salix Homes regarding their duty of care.

Sandy was viciously attacked by the dog who I have to share the communal area with. This dog was known by its owner regarding its aggression towards other dogs but lacked the responsibility to have it muzzled or have control of it.

This resulted in both myself and Sandy being attacked. Sandy required emergency vet A&E for life saving treatment.

my concern is dogs such as this can negatively impact other dogs which could leave them anxious or aggressive them selves.

Sandy is and always has been a joyful, loving friendly dog.

It's not merely an isolated incident, as there is an ongoing threat to safety, making it uncomfortable and dangerous for residents who should feel secure within their own homes.

Living with a heightened sense of anxiety is not only stressful for pet owners but also worrisome for families with small children. Everyone deserves to live in a safe environment free from fear. Salix Homes has a responsibility to protect its tenants by ensuring that aggressive and vicious dogs do not reside within its properties, promoting a secure and harmonious living environment.

There are effective strategies and measures that can be implemented, such as conducting thorough dog behavioral assessments before allowing pets to reside in any Salford building managed by Salix Homes. Additionally, regulations can be enforced requiring tenants with dogs that have exhibited previous aggressive behavior to take mandatory obedience training or face relocation.

It's time to raise awareness and demand action, ensuring Salix Homes upholds a standard of safety and wellness for all its tenants. Our homes should be sanctuaries where peace and security are a given. Help make Salford safer by supporting this vital petition.

Sign this petition to require Salix Homes to adopt policies that prevent aggressive dogs from residing in residential buildings, safeguarding our community and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
