The Issue

We, the undersigned, believe Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow should be granted leniency on her prison sentence and given early release for time served, on compassionate grounds following the murder of her son Arthur.

Olivia was given an extremely harsh sentence of 12 years for manslaughter after stabbing her violent, abusive partner. By contrast men convicted of manslaughter after killing their female partners have recently been sentenced to 8 years (Jake Notman) and 5 years (Anthony Williams).

While she has been in prison Olivia’s 6-year-old son, Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, was tortured and killed by his father and stepmother. Arthur was taken from his loving mother and sent to his death. Olivia’s heartbreaking statement from prison following their conviction mourned the loss of her “best friend” and the “light of [her] life”, Arthur.

This horrific murder is the consequence of Arthur and Olivia being let down by the various services who came into contact with them, and going through it while in a cell has been harrowing and traumatic for Olivia. We urge the Attorney General, Lord Chancellor and Home Secretary to review her case and reduce her sentence in light of the tragedy she has endured. Please allow Olivia to go home to the family she still has.
