Apple TV: Do Not Give in to Censorship. Let The Savant Stream Now.
The Issue
When stories have the power to confront real-world violence, silence isn’t neutrality, it’s complicity. That’s why we’re calling on Apple TV+ to release The Savant now and trust audiences to engage with this critical, timely series.
The Savant, starring Jessica Chastain, tells the story of a woman who infiltrates online hate groups to prevent acts of domestic extremism. Inspired by true events, the series is based on a 2019 Cosmopolitan article titled “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” Yet just days before its premiere, Apple abruptly pulled the show with no clear explanation.
This decision comes amid political tensions following the assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk. But violence from extremism — right, left, or otherwise — is not new, and The Savant doesn’t glorify any ideology. It asks hard questions about how violence festers in the dark corners of the internet, and whether it can be stopped.
Even Jessica Chastain herself has spoken out, saying she “isn’t aligned” with Apple’s choice to delay. She notes that the show reflects a real pattern of violence in the U.S., from the Capitol riot to assassination attempts across the political spectrum. “While I wish this show wasn’t so relevant,” she said, “unfortunately it is.”
We believe viewers can handle difficult truths. In fact, we need them.
Apple TV+ must release The Savant now. Suppressing it sends the wrong message: that truth only deserves airtime when it’s comfortable.
Tim Cook and Apple leadership: Let this story be heard. Let The Savant speak.
