Appeal to the Government of Punjab for the Humanitarian Release of Eligible Prisoners

We, the Namdhari Sikhs, inspired by Thakur Dalip Singh Ji, respectfully appeal to the Government of Punjab to urgently review the cases of prisoners lodged in Punjab’s jails and release deserving ones. Those who are critically ill. Prisoners who have completed their sentence and very elderly prisoners

Our appeal focuses on three categories:

1. Critically ill Prisoners

Special consideration should be given to prisoners:

  • Who are unable to walk or perform basic daily activities;
  • Who require continuous medical care; or
  • Who are suffering from serious or incurable illnesses, particularly those in the final stages of life.

Such cases should be reviewed promptly on medical and humanitarian grounds, and eligible prisoners should be released.

2. Prisoners Who Have Completed Their Sentence

  • Prisoners who have completed their legally prescribed sentence should be released.
  • If some amendments are required in legal proceeding, it should be done.
  • This is not a matter of mercy—it is a matter of upholding the law.

3. Very Elderly Prisoners

The cases of very elderly prisoners should be reviewed considering:

  • Elderly prisoners who are unable to perform basic daily activities without assistance.
  • Prisoners whose age and health does not allow make continued imprisonment.
  • Their age, health, conduct in prison, time already spent and public safety should be considered.

Special consideration should be given to prisoners who are unable to perform their basic daily activities and require continuous medical care, so they should be released due to their miserable condition.

If any legal or policy amendments are required to facilitate such releases, we request the Government to take appropriate steps in that direction as soon as possible.

Bringing comfort to the distressed is true service.

Please sign this petition and share this humanitarian appeal with as many people as possible.
