Appeal for the Inclusion of the Somaliland Flag Emoji on Facebook, Apple, and X (formerly

The Issue

The Republic of Somaliland, situated in the Horn of Africa, shares borders with Djibouti to the West, Ethiopia to the South, Somalia to the East, and the Gulf of Aden to the North.

Somaliland has gained international recognition from 35 countries, including influential nations such as the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, and Iraq. This recognition stems from its history as a former British protectorate, its independence proclamation in 1960, and its subsequent sovereign status since reclaiming sovereignty in 1991 after a failed union with Somalia.

We, the undersigned, earnestly appeal for the inclusion of the Somaliland flag emoji on your esteemed platforms. The majority of Somaliland's population is young, technology-savvy, and enthusiastic users of your respective platforms and devices.

Emojis serve as a universal language, fostering connections and celebrating diversity. Despite its unique history and cultural identity, Somaliland is regrettably absent from the current emoji set.

The addition of a Somaliland emoji would not only serve as a symbolic gesture but also exemplify your dedication to inclusivity and the recognition of diverse communities. It is important to note that this appeal is non-political and solely represents the desires of the Somaliland community.

Your support in this matter would be highly valued and appreciated by the Somaliland community.

Invest a moment of your time to help secure the recognition that those identifying as Somalilander truly deserve – all it takes is one click!

Yours Sincerely,
