The Issue

In a world fractured by conflict, rising authoritarianism, and ideological polarization, we call upon the Nobel Peace Prize Committee to recognize the extraordinary efforts of Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chairman of ASEAN (2025), and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by awarding them the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

This nomination is grounded in the belief that both Anwar Ibrahim and ASEAN represent a unique and principled commitment to dialogue, regional harmony, and global peace through non-coercive diplomacy and inclusive leadership.

🇲🇾 Anwar Ibrahim: Dialogical Leadership Rooted in Justice

Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership is defined by what the world urgently lacks—dialogical leadership. Tested by imprisonment and political persecution, he chose not vengeance, but reconciliation and democratic reform. As a Muslim democrat and global statesman, Anwar is an unwavering proponent of justice through dialogue, navigating domestic complexity and international diplomacy with moral clarity and restraint.

In his role as Chairman of ASEAN 2025, Anwar strengthened regional cohesion and demonstrated bold moral leadership—facilitating critical dialogue between Cambodia and Thailand to prevent conflict escalation, and positioning ASEAN as a stabilizing force in response to ongoing global crises. He also reaffirmed Malaysia’s principled stance in international platforms—advocating peaceful resolution to the Palestinian struggle through lawful and diplomatic means, not violence.

🌏 Dialogue as the Foundation of Peace

Anwar Ibrahim has long stood as a champion of dialogue over domination, advocating that peace and justice must be built through mutual understanding, not coercion. His commitment spans decades:

In 1995, he initiated the Islam-Confucianism Dialogue, fostering deeper civilizational engagement between the Muslim and Chinese worlds.

He supported the creation of enduring institutions of dialogue including:

The Civilizational Dialogue Centre at the University of Malaya, The International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC) at IIUM, and The Centre for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, USA.

Anwar’s vision of inter-civilizational dialogue has matured into a statesmanlike approach to regional and international diplomacy — one that ASEAN, under his leadership, now increasingly embodies.

🌏 ASEAN: Consensus and Centrality in a Multipolar World

For over five decades, ASEAN has quietly upheld one of the world’s most successful peace projects. In a region defined by religious, ethnic, and political diversity, ASEAN has maintained stability and cooperation through consensus, non-interference, and constructive engagement.

Under Malaysia’s leadership, ASEAN’s centrality in Indo-Pacific affairs has been reaffirmed—not through military might, but through diplomacy rooted in mutual respect and strategic restraint. At a time when the Indo-Pacific is a theatre of great power competition, ASEAN provides a non-aligned, values-driven platform for peaceful multilateralism.

🕊 ASEAN as a Platform for Ethical Peacebuilding

This petition also highlights the role of ASEAN as a uniquely Southeast Asian model of preventive diplomacy, consensus-building, and non-hegemonic cooperation. Amidst competing global powers, ASEAN — under Anwar's chairmanship — has shown that dialogical diplomacy can yield real-world peace.

Their collective leadership offers the world an alternative peace paradigm, rooted in wisdom, restraint, and cultural respect — a stark contrast to military intervention or geopolitical rivalry.

🏅 Why They Deserve the Nobel Peace Prize

The joint nomination of Anwar Ibrahim and ASEAN recognizes a model of peacemaking that values patience over provocation, inclusion over isolation, and dialogue over dominance.

It affirms that:

Peace can be achieved without war.

Consensus can be more powerful than coercion.

Leadership rooted in ethics and humility can prevail in complex times.Awarding the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Anwar Ibrahim & ASEAN will honour not only their contributions, but also spotlight a region that, despite its challenges, continues to offer the world a living example of dialogue-based diplomacy in action.

✍️ Sign this petition to support this historic nomination and to amplify the message that dialogical leadership, regional cooperation, and human dignity are the most effective tools we have for sustaining peace.
