No Detriment Policy for Anglia Ruskin University Students

No Detriment Policy for Anglia Ruskin University Students
The Issue
We ask that Anglia Ruskin University implement a no detriment policy for all students completing outstanding assessments during the current coronavirus pandemic. This would be following the example of the Universities of Exeter, Manchester, Edinburgh and Warwick.
This would mean that students would still complete and submit the final assessments on time but it would also mean that as long as they can achieve the pass mark of 40%, the students’ average already obtained from their time at the university will not be negatively impacted during this pandemic. This would still allow those students who feel they can improve their average mark to do so.
We acknowledge and appreciate the extensions we were given for coursework, however, the extensions still assume that we are working under normal circumstances. It does not consider the students who do not have the resources to complete the assessment. Some students and lecturers rely on the university computers, some have children at home to care for, some have had to fly home due to the closing of borders in many countries.
We cannot keep following normal study procedures under these completely abnormal circumstances. Students currently have minimal contact with the university, and cannot physically work to the same standard as students usually would. Students, especially those in their final year, should not have our hard earned grades affected due to something that is completely out of our control.
Simply at this time students do not have access to a normal working environment and we therefore cannot be expected to provide a normal piece of assessment at this time. We therefore ask you to support our students' wellbeing and mental health during this unprecedented time by signing this petition.
