The Issue
I am a victim of the two-year rule in dismissal cases, a policy that exposed me—like many others—to abrupt termination. Such a rule promotes a two-year probation period where workers remain vulnerable and expendable. We believe it's time to reconsider this policy, reducing the timeline to one year.
Upon digging into this issue, it is shocking to discover how pervasive unfair dismissal cases are across the country. According to the UK Government's records (2018/19), there were 30,000 cases related to unfair dismissal, with nearly 24% of them involving employees with less than two-year tenure.
This is more than a personal issue for me and thousands of other people who lost their jobs unfairly. It's a question of worker rights and protections that needs immediate attention. Therefore, we request the relevant authorities to revise the two-year rule for unfair dismissal cases, aiming to make it one year. This amendment will not only provide added job security but will also ensure a more fair, balanced employment environment.
