Allow Zamzam Water (5 Litre) on Wizz Air

Allow Zamzam Water (5 Litre) on Wizz Air
The Issue
To: Wizz Air Management
We, the undersigned passengers and members of the Muslim community, respectfully request that Wizz Air review and reconsider its current policy regarding the transportation of Zamzam water specifically the standard sealed 5-litre Zamzam bottle on flights departing from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Zamzam water holds profound religious and spiritual significance for Muslims around the world. It originates from the sacred well in Makkah and is intrinsically connected to the holy journeys of Hajj and Umrah. Bringing Zamzam water home is a long-standing religious tradition, allowing pilgrims and visitors to share blessings with family members, friends, the elderly, and the sick. It is neither a commercial product nor an ordinary souvenir.
We acknowledge that Wizz Air currently permits the carriage of Zamzam water for passengers travelling on an Umrah visa. However, this policy creates an unnecessary and unfair distinction between passengers based solely on visa type. An Umrah visa often costs £100–£150 or more (depending on the agent), while a Saudi tourist visa costs approximately £35–£40, which is why many travellers choose it. Despite these differences, the religious importance of Zamzam water remains exactly the same for all Muslim passengers, regardless of visa category.
In practice, this policy has caused significant upset and distress among passengers. Many travellers have reported being deeply disappointed when, upon arrival, they were unable to collect their Zamzam water at the airport and were instead instructed to hand the sealed bottle back. For many, this moment comes at the end of a deeply meaningful spiritual journey, making the experience particularly upsetting. Passengers have also raised complaints directly with airline staff and travel agents, expressing frustration and confusion about the policy and its inconsistent impact.
Preventing passengers travelling on a tourist visa from carrying Zamzam water causes disappointment and distress, particularly after visiting the Holy Lands. Many other airlines operating flights from Saudi Arabia make special accommodations for Zamzam water regardless of visa type, recognising both its religious importance and its specific handling requirements.
This policy also has wider implications for customer satisfaction and loyalty. When passengers feel disappointed at the end of an important spiritual journey, they are far less likely to return. Many travellers may seek alternative airlines that better accommodate this essential religious need, resulting in the potential loss of significant repeat business. Ultimately, this issue is not only about Zamzam water it is about ensuring passengers leave feeling respected, valued, and willing to choose Wizz Air again.
We respectfully request that Wizz Air consider one of the following actions:
Allow all passengers departing from Saudi Arabia to carry one sealed 5-litre Zamzam bottle, regardless of visa type; OR
Provide a clear, affordable, and culturally respectful alternative for transporting Zamzam water.
As an international airline serving a diverse global community, Wizz Air has an opportunity to demonstrate cultural understanding, religious sensitivity, and inclusivity. Revising this policy would significantly enhance the travel experience of Muslim passengers and foster goodwill, trust, and long-term loyalty toward the airline.
We sincerely hope Wizz Air will give thoughtful consideration to this request and take steps to support this important and deeply rooted religious tradition.
Respectfully,
Concerned Passengers and Members of the Muslim Community
