High school is already challenging enough without the added stress of not being able to use your chosen name and pronouns. For closeted transgender or gender-expansive students, being forced to wait for parental consent can be detrimental to their mental health. Studies show that using correct names and pronouns significantly reduces depression and suicidal ideation among transgender youth (source: The Trevor Project). Schools should be safe spaces where all students can express their true selves.
