The issue

I have facial hair, and it gives me a sense of individuality and pride. At St Bernard's College in Essendon, students are required to be clean-shaven, which unfairly targets individuals like me who take pride in their facial hair. Allowing students to have facial hair would not only respect personal choices but also celebrate diversity and individuality among the student body.

Currently, the policy at St Bernard's College mandates that all male students must be clean-shaven, which overlooks the significance of personal expression and forms of identity. In many cultures, facial hair represents maturity and identity, and being forced to remove it can feel stifling and demoralizing. For some students, facial hair offers a comfort in personal identity during the critical years of adolescence.

Research has shown that allowing students more freedom in personal grooming does not negatively impact their academic performance or demeanor. The implementation of such inclusive practices can foster a more accepting and enriching environment for all.

By changing this policy, St Bernard's College would set a precedent for other educational institutions, promoting a culture of inclusivity, respect, and acceptance. Students should not have to sacrifice their personal expression at the door of their school. This change would acknowledge and support students in expressing who they truly are.

Join me in urging St Bernard's College to embrace individuality and inclusivity by allowing facial hair. Sign this petition to show your support for a policy that respects all forms of self-expression.
