My son has autism, and like many individuals on the spectrum, he faces unique challenges every day. One particular struggle he deals with is the inability to regulate his body temperature. Wearing trousers during warmer months or periods of increased temperature can lead to sensory overload, affecting not only his comfort but also his willingness and ability to learn effectively.

Unfortunately, the current policy at our local secondary school prohibits boys from wearing shorts, leaving them with little flexibility or comfort in warmer seasons. This policy is not only outdated, but it overlooks the specific needs of students like my son who require accommodations for their autism, particularly in terms of sensory processing.
