Align Culburra Beach with Holiday Haven’s Pet-Friendly Parks

Align Culburra Beach with Holiday Haven’s Pet-Friendly Parks
The issue
Holiday Haven already successfully allows dogs at select parks, such as Bendalong.
We are asking Holiday Haven management to consider aligning Culburra Beach with these existing pet-friendly policies—through a responsible, well-managed approach that supports both guests and park standards.
Holiday Haven parks are built around community, connection, and family experiences. For many of us, dogs are a valued part of our family. The current restriction limits how often people stay, how long they visit, and in some cases, whether they choose Culburra at all.
We, the undersigned owners, guests, and visitors of Holiday Haven Culburra Beach, respectfully request a review of the current policy prohibiting dogs within the park.
We also note that the majority of Holiday Haven parks currently accommodate dogs, including Burrill Lake, Currarong, Huskisson Beach, Lake Tabourie, Shoalhaven Heads, Swan Lake, Ulladulla, Bendalong, Kangaroo Valley, and Lake Conjola. In contrast, only a small number of parks, including Culburra Beach, remain non dog-friendly.
This highlights that pet-friendly policies are already a well-established and successfully managed part of the Holiday Haven offering, and supports consideration for aligning Culburra Beach with this broader approach.
Many van owners and visitors have found that they:
Stay or visit less frequently than they otherwise would
Shorten their stays
Or choose alternative, pet-friendly parks
Allowing dogs under a responsible and well-managed framework would likely increase visitation, length of stays, and overall guest satisfaction.
We fully acknowledge the considerations behind maintaining a dog-free environment, including noise, safety, cleanliness, shared space use, and insurance and liability. With this in mind, we propose a balanced approach that directly addresses these concerns:
Noise management: Dogs not to be left unattended for extended periods, with owners responsible for managing excessive barking
Safety: Dogs to be leashed at all times when outside of private sites, with reasonable limits on number and/or size where appropriate
Cleanliness and shared spaces: Strict waste disposal requirements, with owners responsible for maintaining clean and respectful shared environments
Additionally, consideration could be given to prioritising dog allowances for van owners with enclosed verandahs or defined outdoor spaces, where pets can be safely contained, as well as designating specific pet-friendly sites or zones within the park.
We believe this approach maintains the high standards of Holiday Haven while evolving to reflect the needs of its broader community and the reality that pets are part of many families today.
We appreciate your time and consideration and would welcome further discussion on how this can be implemented effectively.
