I believe that the age of consent in Wisconsin should be 16 instead of 18. By the age of 16 most teens can drive, have full control over their healthcare, and are working members of society. At the age of 16 teens can consent to sexual contact, but not sexual intercourse. This is unreasonable and old fashioned, if they have the mental capacity to consent to sexual touch, to consent to medical care, and to consent to dental treatment, why can they not consent to sexual intercourse? It also makes no sense, that the age of consent immediately switches if a minor marries an adult, once the marriage is official, the minor can consent to full sexual intercourse. The fact that a single piece of paper can change how the government views their mental capacity is completely unjust. It is also unfair how the minors who this law effects, have no say in it. Sixteen year-olds should have more independence and at least have some input over the laws that "protect" them.
