Advocate for Equal and Quality Elder Care in Assisted Living and Long-Term Care Facilities

Advocate for Equal and Quality Elder Care in Assisted Living and Long-Term Care Facilities
The Issue
Every elderly individual deserves to live their final years with dignity, respect, and access to quality care—no matter their financial situation. Yet, in assisted living and long-term care homes across the country, the standard of care often depends on a resident’s ability to pay, leaving countless vulnerable individuals at risk.
I experienced this firsthand when my grandmother, Alberta Peters, spent her final years in a care home. Despite my family’s unwavering advocacy, we saw issues such as:
• Inconsistent care for residents without strong family support or financial resources.
• Over-medicating residents to manage behavior instead of providing compassionate, personalized care.
• A lack of accountability and oversight for care facilities.
No one should have to worry whether their loved ones will receive the care they need simply because of their financial outlook. Every resident, regardless of income, deserves:
• Equal access to high-quality care.
• Properly trained and adequately staffed facilities.
• Protection from practices like over-medicating or neglect.
• Strong oversight and accountability to ensure facilities meet the highest standards of care.
We are calling on lawmakers, healthcare agencies, and regulators to enact meaningful reforms to improve care in assisted living and long-term care homes. Specifically, we urge:
1. Implementation of equal care standards across all facilities, regardless of residents’ financial situations.
2. Increased oversight and enforcement of care regulations.
3. Bans on over-medicating residents as a behavioral management tool.
4. Greater transparency and support for families navigating these systems.
Sign this petition to demand that every elderly individual is treated with the respect, dignity, and care they deserve. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind in their most vulnerable years.
