Adopt Senate Bill 11 for Killeen ISD

Adopt Senate Bill 11 for Killeen ISD
The Issue
We’re asking you to join us in supporting the implementation of Senate Bill 11 in Killeen ISD — a new Texas law that allows school districts to set aside a voluntary time each day for students to pray or read religious texts. This opportunity is entirely optional and requires written parent or guardian consent, as the law clearly states:
“Participation… is voluntary and must be with the written consent of the student’s parent or guardian.” (Sec. 25.924(b)(2))
This isn’t about pushing religion — it’s about protecting freedom. SB 11 ensures that activities are student-led, never broadcast over loudspeakers, and supervised without staff influencing content. It creates space for students who want to begin their day with spiritual focus or reflection, which research shows can support mental health, academic focus, and personal resilience. As the bill says,
“An employee… may supervise… but may not participate in or influence the content.” (Sec. 25.924(e))
By signing this petition, you’re showing your support for giving students in our district the freedom to reflect, pray, and grow in a way that aligns with their values — without infringing on anyone else’s. Let’s ask KISD to lead with both courage and compassion by adopting SB 11 in our schools, starting with Harker Heights High School.
