Keep School Resource Officers in Santa Rosa City Schools

Keep School Resource Officers in Santa Rosa City Schools
The Issue
The Santa Rosa School Board is in discussions about ending their relationship with the Santa Rosa Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) Program. School Resource Officers have been on Santa Rosa City School campuses for 20 years.
The School Resource Officer plays many roles on the school campuses, such as: counselor, educator, mentor and also enforcing the law when necessary. Restorative justice is a practice used to diffuse incidents between students.
School Resource Officers are dedicated to collaborating with the Santa Rosa School Districts to ensure a safe learning environment, provide valuable resources to school staff and youth, to prevent and solve problems within the school and community and to foster positive relationships between youth and police officers.
School Resource Officers also participate in a variety of community activities related to kids such as school career days, teaching parents and students about cyber bullying, conducting presentations at schools about the dangers of drugs and gangs, or reading books to elementary students.
The Santa Rosa Police Department fully funds the 5 School Resource Officer positions. If the School Resource Officers are removed from campus, they will quite likely be gone forever.
In a recent converstaion, the Superintendent stated she has had zero incidents with School Resource Officers in her 7 years.
We often hear its about the "KIDS".. well, the ones who will suffer the most are the "KIDS."
Now, more than ever, it is vital that we talk with kids about what is happening around the Country. Hopefully having these discussions will allow us to come together and make changes.
Please support keeping our School Resource Officers in the Santa Rosa City Schools.
