The Issue

Living in Ward 122 of Johannesburg South has become increasingly challenging as my family and I, along with many neighbours, face a persistent water crisis. Areas like Zakariyya Park, Vlakfontein, Lehae and other surrounding areas have been subjected to unreliable water supply, where some days we wake up to dry taps. This has severely impacted our daily life, making it hard to perform basic functions like cooking, cleaning, and even maintaining hygiene – things that many take for granted.

This isn't just a mere inconvenience. The lack of consistent water supply poses significant health risks, disrupts daily activities, and erodes our quality of life. Many residents have been forced to buy expensive water from vendors, which is not a sustainable solution and adds financial strain to already burdened households.

According to the World Health Organization, access to a reliable water source is a fundamental human right. Yet, in Zakariyya Park, this right seems elusive as erratic water supply becomes the norm. The local authorities have been notified multiple times, but meaningful action remains lacking.

The solution to this pressing issue is within reach. We are calling on local government officials and water management authorities to prioritize this crisis and implement long-term solutions. Necessary steps include upgrading the existing water infrastructure, ensuring timely maintenance, and providing clear communication about water supply schedules to the residents.

Immediate intervention is essential to restore consistent water access and safeguard our community's well-being. It is time for our voices to be heard and for actionable solutions to be implemented.

We urge everyone to support our cause for a dependable water supply by signing this petition. Together, we can advocate for the necessary changes that will lead to a better living environment for the residents of Zakariyya Park. Please sign and share this petition to help bring about this essential change.
