Living in the Blochairn area of Glasgow has become increasingly distressing due to a severe fly infestation issue. As a resident, I am one of hundreds affected, and I'm deeply concerned that this issue is not being taken seriously. Despite numerous complaints to Blochairn Housing Association about the waste and recycling plant on Blochairn Road, residents are constantly assured that the increase in flies is not connected to this facility. But we live amidst the stench of rotting food, flies, and rats. This situation is unsustainable and deeply detrimental to our quality of life.

Our community is being advised to keep windows closed and resort to fly sprays and nets to keep these pests out of our homes. Yet, the larger issue remains unaddressed—where is the root cause of this massive influx of flies?

Evidence from other communities shows that waste facilities can contribute to such infestations if not properly managed. We need Glasgow City Council to investigate the operations of the plant on Blochairn Road and implement effective controls to reduce the fly population in our area. This could include improved waste management practices, regular inspections, and collaboration with pest control experts.

Fly infestations not only compromise the comfort of our homes but also pose health risks by spreading disease. Addressing this problem should be a priority, considering the impact it's having on both living conditions and the wellbeing of Blochairn residents.
