Petition: Add Nigerian Languages- Hausa, Ibibio, Igbo, Yoruba Deserve a Spot!

Why This Matters

Nigeria is home to over 200 million people, with three major indigenous languages—Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa— and over 500 languages spoken by millions across Africa and beyond. Despite this, these rich languages are missing from Duolingo, one of the world’s leading language-learning platforms.  

Learning a Nigerian language can help:  
✅ Preserve cultural heritage and prevent language extinction  
✅ Help Nigerians in the diaspora reconnect with their roots
✅ Promote multilingualism in education and business
✅ Encourage global appreciation of African languages

Our Request to Duolingo
We are calling on Duolingo to introduce at least one Nigerian language—Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa—into its program. These languages are widely spoken, with existing learning materials that can help develop a comprehensive course.
