Add Knoebels Amusement Resort to the National Register of Historic Places!

The Issue

Knoebels Amusement Resort is my favorite amusement park of all time. It holds a special place in my heart because it has so many unique characteristics that set it apart from most other amusement parks. Not only is it independently owned and operated, but it also offers free parking and admission with the option to purchase individual ride tickets or an all-day wristband (except on weekends). Plus, the food and beverages are affordable yet phenomenal.

Knoebels first opened in 1926 and has a total of 64 rides including 6 roller coasters, one of which is a one-of-a-kind trackless wooden bobsled roller coaster, the only one of its kind in existence. What's more impressive is that three of the rollercoasters were rescue efforts from other parks; The Phoenix was rescued from a park in Texas that was closing, The Twister was rescued from a park in Virginia that was moving, and The Black Diamond was rescued from Morey's Piers & Beachfront Waterparks.

Another thing I love about Knoebels is their staff; they have the same staff working at the park season after season rather than cycling through high school and college students every season. This creates an atmosphere where everyone knows each other by name.

The food options are endless at Knoebels; everything from pierogies to pizza. They have two carousels, one of which is one of very few remaining carousels with a working brass ring dispenser; if you grab it successfully, you score a ticket for a free ride. And ride tickets never expire!

Knoebels also has two miniature train rides: One fueled by coal like a real steam train known as Old Smokey Train while Pioneer train takes riders on 1.5-mile ride through heavily wooded areas where you can view wildlife.

Therefore we urge everyone to sign this petition to add Knoebel's Amusement Resort to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a unique one-of-a-kind amusement park that is underrated compared to other amusement parks in Pennsylvania, and it deserves recognition for its contributions to the amusement park industry.
