The issue

The Destiny Church 'ManUp' group looks like a gang (wears patches) and acts like a gang (violence and intimidation tactics). This weekend has seen their thuggish antics as a gang reach new lows, with violent protests at Pride events in Auckland.

NZ Police "strongly condemned' the hateful protests. Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown called the actions "disgraceful and unacceptable." Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said "we respect people's rights to peaceful protest, [but] they went too far."

While the gang patch ban is problematic, it is currently in NZ Law - so it may as well be consistent and include these aggressive thugs...

This petition calls for the Destiny Church ManUp patches 'Tu Tangata Iwi Hapu' to be added to the list of banned gang insignia within the Gangs Act 2024.

Please note: Donations made here go to Change.org operations - not to any activist group involved in this petition.

Today, it's not enough to be non-hateful, we must be Anti-Hate! Our Pride community and other diverse communities of Aotearoa NZ deserve to be proud and to celebrate community, identity, love and expression without violent interference and intimidation from these thugs in patches.

Police have said for a gang to be eligible for Schedule 2 (Gangs Act 2024), it must have a common name or identifying signs or symbols, be currently active in New Zealand and have members or associates who have been convicted of an offence carrying a maximum possible prison term of two years or more in the past five years. ManUp is quite open about their group including members with gang history and all that comes with that. "Turning gang-man into family men."
